Martin Scorsese's daughter trolls him with 'Avengers' wrapping paper after Marvel controversy

Remember Martin Scorsese's controversial comments about the Marvel franchise from earlier this year? His daughter does.

Francesca Scorsese, the "Irishman" director's 's 20-year-old daughter, trolled her dad with "Avengers"-themed wrapping paper this Christmas after the director was met backlash in October for saying the Marvel franchise was "not cinema."

"Look what I'm wrapping my dad's Xmas gifts in," she captioned an Instagram story photo of "Avengers"-themed wrapping paper featuring Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the Hulk.

The Oscar-winner compared the superhero blockbusters to an amusement park in an interview with Britain's Empire magazine. "Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well-made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks," Scorsese, 77, said.

"I don’t see them. I tried, you know?" he added. "It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being."

"Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn caught wind of Scorsese's remarks, admitting that they "saddened" him.

"Martin Scorsese is one of my 5 favorite living filmmakers," Gunn, 53, tweeted at the time. "I was outraged when people picketed 'The Last Temptation of Christ' without having seen the film. I’m saddened that he’s now judging my films in the same way."

Last month Scorsese addressed the backlash in an op-ed for The New York Times, explaining the franchise wasn't his cup of tea because they didn't reflect the same filmmaking artistry he fell in love with as a kid.

"What’s not there is revelation, mystery or genuine emotional danger," he wrote. "Nothing is at risk. The pictures are made to satisfy a specific set of demands, and they are designed as variations on a finite number of themes."
