NOTE: This story has been updated. Coralwood 10 announced Monday afternoon that it had postponed its planned Monday reopening due to a water outage.

Cape Coral’s Coralwood 10 movie theater plans to reopen this week, a month after closing because of Florida’s COVID-19 surge and a lack of summer blockbusters being released.

Now many of those blockbusters have hit the silver screen nationwide, prompting most U.S. theaters to reopen.

The Marquee Cinemas theater hopes to reopen Wednesday. It previously had announced that it would open Monday, Aug. 31, but then abruptly postponed that until at least Wednesday.

"We were very excited with the thoughts of opening today," the theater wrote Monday afternoon on Facebook. "However, due to a water outage caused by construction in the area, we are unable to open today. Our hopes are to be able to reopen on Wednesday."

Tickets are on sale for eight new releases at the theater, including Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet,” “The New Mutants,” “Bill & Ted Face The Music,“Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Dolittle.”

Coralwood 10’s website and Facebook page don’t offer more details about the reopening. But when the theater first reopened in June — before closing again July 31 — it had announced that the theater would be:

  • Following CDC guidelines to protect visitors and employees
  • Increasing cleaning of high-contact surfaces
  • Adding hand sanitizer stations
  • Reducing seating capacity to create more social distancing
  • Adding extra time between shows to allow for more cleaning
  • And emphasizing limited contact with concession items
